Today marks an exciting day for fans of both LEGO and The Legend of Zelda series. On the 28th of May 2024, the LEGO Group has officially announced the LEGO® The Legend of Zelda™ Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set, a magnificent tribute to a beloved character from Nintendo’s iconic franchise. This meticulously crafted 2,500-piece set brings to life the Great Deku Tree, allowing builders to recreate scenes from either The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The set’s versatility is one of its standout features. Builders can choose to construct the Great Deku Tree as it appears in Ocarina of Time, with lush green foliage, or as seen in Breath of the Wild, adorned with vibrant pink blossoms. This dual design captures the essence of adventure and nostalgia that fans cherish.
The Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set isn’t just about static beauty; it includes interactive elements that add an extra layer of engagement. In the Breath of the Wild version, builders can animate the tree’s expressive eyebrows and mouth with a simple lever, bringing the set to life. The Ocarina of Time version features an intricate mechanism where the tree’s mouth opens to reveal a descending Skulltula, a nod to the iconic spider-like enemies from the game.
The attention to detail in this set is truly impressive. Alongside the Great Deku Tree, fans will find iconic scenery pieces, such as the Master Sword pedestal from Breath of the Wild and Link’s House from Ocarina of Time. These additions allow enthusiasts to customize their display, creating a unique homage to their favorite moments from the games.
Four LEGO minifigures are included, showcasing beloved characters from both games. Breath of the Wild enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of Princess Zelda and Link in their recognizable blue attire, while Ocarina of Time fans will find both Young Link and adult Link. The set also features buildable characters like Hestu the Korok, complete with his maracas, smaller Koroks, Deku Babas, Navi the Fairy, the Deku Sprout, and a Skulltula.
Eiji Aonuma, the Producer of The Legend of Zelda series at Nintendo, expressed his excitement about this collaboration: “I’m really thrilled that The Legend of Zelda is joining the world of LEGO bricks, which has spurred the creative impulses of so many people of all ages. The Deku Tree was the first element from The Legend of Zelda we wanted to represent using LEGO bricks. This set allows you to build two different versions of the Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with unique features that are a great fit for the nature of the series. I can’t wait for everyone to get the chance to build this part of The Legend of Zelda world with their own hands.”
LEGO Designer Wes Talbott also shared his thoughts: “Our fans have been asking for a LEGO set based on The Legend of Zelda series for a while, so we were delighted to work with Nintendo to create the Great Deku Tree in brick form. As a fan of the franchise, it was great to work on this set and fill it with details and references from the games. I’m also glad we managed to offer the choice to build one of two versions to appeal to many Zelda fans. I can’t wait to see the fans’ reactions to this set.”
