Yesterday we reported that some of the new set from The LEGO Batman Movie were on Target shelves, despite having official release dates of December 1 and after. Many who found those sets posted pictures of a couple of other sets found in the instructions, and today The LEGO Group has followed up with 2 photos for each set. One photo is the official box cover and the other is a more detailed photo of what’s in each set. Let’s have a look at each.
The Joker Balloon Escape (70900) – 124 Pieces
This is the smallest in the series, but still has some interesting parts. You get 2 minifigures (Batman and the Joker of course), and build both a crazy looking ballon backpack for the Joker and a small explosive/chemical setup. Batman gets a grapple-gun with a hook and studded rope.
Mr. Freeze Ice Attack (70901) – 201 Pieces
In this set, Mr. Freeze is contained within a giant robot suit attacking a security guard, while Batman tries to rescue the guard. The giant Mr. Freeze suit is nicely articulated and features lots of great blue and trans-blue pieces. The set also includes a giant trans-blue ice piece in which you can “freeze” the guard, or maybe even Batman.
Catwoman Catcycle Chase (70902) – 139 Pieces
This set seems pretty small and simple, but could be a lot of fun. You get 3 minifigures with the titular Catwoman, Batgirl and Robin, along with Catwoman’s Catcycle and a small unnamed jewelry store that she’s meant to be robbing.
The Riddler Riddle Racer (70903) – 254 Pieces
Now this is a set I really like. 5 minifigures: Batman, The Riddler, Magpie, Calendar Man and Kite Man. Ok, I don’t know the last 2 really, but they bring a lot to the set. I like the look of the Riddle Racer, it’s a very dynamic shape.
Clayface Splat Attack (70904) – 448 Pieces
Clayface seemed like a difficult concept to pull off in LEGO, but the masters have done their work and executed the concept well. His classic clay-hammer hand and lumpy body are nicely articulated, as are his clump-shooter hands. You get a few extra clay discs and a larger clay piece in which to trap a minifigure. Batman and Mayor McCaskill are also included. Given the piece count, Clayface must be large and detailed.
The Batmobile (70905) – 581 Pieces
This is one of the central pieces of any Batman line and they’ve definitely gone in a slightly different direction this time. This isn’t the Tumbler or a car, it reminds me of a monster truck meets a dragster. It includes 5 minifigures with Batman, Robin, Man-Bat and the Kabuki Twins.
The Joker Notorious Lowrider (70906) – 433 Pieces
Definitely a signature piece in the line, and likely the movie, the set doesn’t include a Batman figure (finally), but does include The Joker, Harley Quinn and Batgirl. The set will definitely fit within certain types of scenes in a LEGO collection, but feels right for the movie.
Killer Croc Tail-Gator (70907) – 460 Pieces
Killer Croc is a lot like Clayface in that he could be challenging to pull of in traditional LEGO so the designers chose to go with large-scale molded figure and not something normal, and he looks great. The set also contains Batman, Zebra Man and Tarantula. Closeups of the Zebra Man figure are showing up on the internet and he looks great.
The Scuttler (70908) – 775 Pieces
A huge ship, the Scuttler is probably part of a large climax in the movie. It feels like something production spent a lot of time on. The set includes 6 minifigures: Batman, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon, Poison Ivy and The Joker. I’ve loving Poison Ivy’s roots and vines here.
Batcave Break-In (70909) – 1047 Pieces
Batman, Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Scu-Bat, Raging Bat, The Bat Pack, The Penguin and 2 Penguin Robots are all included in this set. Kind of. Although all of the Batman figures are full standard minifigs, they seem meant to hang on his “Bat-suit-rack” shown in the back left of the cover photo. This set has a lot going on, from the Bat-boat to the Floating and Armed Rubber Duck, to the myriad screened Bat-computer and other gadgets around the lair.
Arkham Asylum (70912) – 1628 Pieces
There’s no box art for this set yet, but I wanted to include it for completeness. It appears to contain 12 minifigures including Batman, Robin, TwoFace, Catwoman, The Joker, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, Aaron Cash, Harleen Quinzel, Barbara Gordon and 2 GCPD Officers.
Overall:
If you bought all of these sets, you’d end up with 3 or 4 different Jokers. I think the 2nd and 3rd below are the same Joker – with a reversible head. The first is definitely different in a striped vest, no jacket and playing cards on his sleeves. Arkham Asylum also has Joker in a prison jumpsuit
You’d also end up with 9 apparently identical Batman figures plus 3 alternate suits, but you’d have an amazing collection of The LEGO Batman Movie sets and a great time putting them all together.
