Get ready for a great LEGO Holiday season to wrap up 2016, and the fun starts now!
Last week LEGO announced their Winter Holiday set for 2016 – The Winter Holiday Train (10254) which continues the Winter Holiday theme, and provides an opportunity for a winter town train if you didn’t get one back in 2006 (10173 Holiday Train).
This year’s train comes with 5 minifigures including a locomotive driver, ticket collector, grandmother, boy and a girl; several special elements including colored train wheels; and the option of using a Power Functions motor (not included). Overall the set has 734 pieces and LEGO has kept the price at $99.99 US (or local equivalents) which means it’s “relatively” affordable.
The introduction of the Power Functions option, while adding playability, also adds complexity as you need to add 4 additional sets to complete it. The required sets are listed on the box as 8879 LEGO Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control, 8884 LEGO Power Functions IR Receiver, 88000 LEGO Power Functions AAA Battery Box, and 88002 LEGO Power Functions Train Motor, which adds an addition $54.96 to the overall price.
As always VIP members get early access to the set, starting on September 15, with the general public getting access on October 1.
