Here’s something parents and LEGO fans have been waiting years to hear: LEGO Education is finally making 4 new LEGO STEM science kits for home use. For the first time ever, those hands-on science kits that have been locked away in classrooms are coming to LEGO.com and retail stores. And if you’ve got a curious kid who never stops asking “why?” — this might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

The new LEGO Education STEM sets lineup includes four science kits covering space missions and animal science, priced from $49.99 to $99.99. They’re designed around LEGO Education’s “Build, Solve, Invent” approach — basically, kids build something, test it, break it, fix it, and then go off-script to invent their own solutions. It’s the kind of learning that sticks, and honestly, it’s how LEGO has always worked best. The difference now is that it’s intentionally structured for independent discovery at home.

LEGO® Education Inspires Hands-On Discovery for Young Builders at Home with New STEM Sets

BILLUND, DENMARK – 20 January 2026:  Today, the LEGO Group and LEGO Education launch four innovative STEM sets, specifically designed to inspire curiosity, exploration, and scientific discovery at home, for children aged 7 and up.

Developed in collaboration with educators and inspired by real-world challenges, the sets are grounded in core STEM passion points – space, animals, and nature – and bring real-world science to life through hands-on, independent play.

To mark the launch, the LEGO Group commissioned a global study* which highlights a “curiosity gap” experienced by parents. While more than 1 in 2 parents (57%) report their child’s curiosity frequently surprises them, around one in three (34%) admit they sometimes unintentionally halt their child’s exploration due to time pressures or uncertainty about answers. Critically, 3 in 4 parents (75%) feel unprepared to confidently tackle science questions at home, demonstrating a clear demand for engaging, accessible learning tools that children can play with independently.

“This research shows that parents want to support their children’s curiosity about the world around them but aren’t always equipped to explain science-specific questions themselves,” said Victor Saeijs, President of LEGO Education. “Now, for the first time, children can explore science at home with these LEGO Education STEM sets, using the Build, Solve, Invent approach. By building, testing, and inventing their own solutions, children discover that every attempt – even an unexpected one – contributes to learning. The sets are designed to foster curiosity, confidence, and creativity at every step.”

Every LEGO Education set masterfully transforms learning into an adventure through its clear and engaging “Build, Solve, Invent” play loop. First, in the Build phase, children follow instructions to build challenges, setting the stage for scientific discovery and hands-on experimentation. Next, the Solve phase sees them actively testing, tweaking, and applying their knowledge to creatively conquer challenges. Finally, in Invent, their understanding deepens as they apply learned concepts to devise their own solutions for new, open-ended challenges, fostering continuous experimentation and sustained curiosity.

Steve Backshall sits with the 4 new LEGO STEM science kits

“My understanding of the natural world and science largely comes from venturing into uncharted territories and hands-on exploration,” says Explorer and Naturalist Steve Backshall. “What truly excites me about these new LEGO Education STEM sets is how effectively they translate that same spirit of adventure and discovery directly into the home environment and allow children to become active scientists – experimenting, tackling real science challenges, and making their own discoveries. It truly frames learning as an exciting voyage, where every challenging moment is simply an opportunity for deeper understanding and a new ‘aha!’ moment.”
