Example of a Free Star Wars poster

You can now design your own free Star Wars character to be featured on a cool poster of your very own!

The main story going around is about the Target promotion for “Be The Next Hero” with LEGO and Star Wars but there’s more to it also!

The free Star Wars poster generator allows you to design a Star Wars character, choose your favorite LEGO Star Wars set and then download a custom poster. There’s a variety of character elements to choose from including some wild colors for hair and things. You can also choose different hair styles & torsos within the range.

We were a little disappointed that to get a female your only option is to change the hair color or apply “lipstick” which also changes the face. Star Wars isn’t known for it’s abundance of female options, but with Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Bo Katan and other shows giving us more femaie characters, we can hope.

After you go through the customization you can name your character and choose your favorite Star Wars set from a very limited selection, that will also adorn the poster and on the Target version of the site you can then download it for free which includes the Target logo.

Once you’ve downloaded the image you are invited to “Discover New Sets” with a link to Target’s Star Wars LEGO section.

But Wait – there’s more!

Being curious, we stripped off the Target subdomain from the URL to see what else was hiding there. Lo and behold there’s a different but similar poster generator without the Target branding and using an entirely different system to generate your image.

Here, you first pick a skin tone and you then upload a selfie or photo of someone (read the Terms and Privacy Policy first) and the system generates a custom Star Wars character for you. Then you pick your set and enter a name.

The other major difference here is that you MUST enter an email address to download the image you generated. The site is run by The LEGO Group and their terms are all there to read for privacy etc.

The downloaded poster doesn’t have the Target branding on it.

Once you’ve entered your email, you are invited to “Discover New Sets” with a link to LEGO’s Star Wars theme.

What do you think? Seems like a fun tool for kids – no wait. You have to be 16 to use the tool. Ok, it seems like a fun tool for parents to use to generate something WITH or for their kids.
