Hey there car enthusiasts and LEGO lovers! Remember last year when Team Peugeot TotalEnergies unveiled the game-changing 9X8 hypercar? Well, guess what? They’ve teamed up with LEGO Group to recreate the epic hybrid hypercar in LEGO® Technic™ form. Introducing the LEGO® Technic™ PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar (Set 42156)!

In an impressive display of teamwork and engineering prowess, the design teams from LEGO Group and Peugeot Sport have created an incredibly accurate 1:10 scale version of the cutting-edge 9X8 hypercar. This LEGO Technic model captures the sleek silhouette, lime flashes on the livery, and everything else that makes the 9X8 so alluring. The 9X8 is all about PEUGEOT’s passion for electrification and their love of competing at the highest level.

Now, let’s talk details! This new model stays true to the real-life 4-wheel drive hypercar with a simplified build, featuring the V6 engine connected to the rear wheels and a LEGO Technic replica of the electric motor connected to the front wheels (though not battery driven). You’ll also find the hypercar’s unique doors, low-emission hybrid powertrain Technic cables, powerful suspension, and elegant profile. Oh, and did we mention the glow-in-the-dark light elements that truly capture the thrill of racing?

Kasper René Hansen, a Designer at the LEGO Group, had this to say about the 1,775-piece masterpiece:

“Our two brands have come together to create a product that celebrates a new era of hybrid racing and engineering. Recreating the shapes and details of such an elegant car using LEGO Technic elements wasn’t an easy feat, but it’s been an honour to work so creatively with the Team Peugeot TotalEnergies on this one and I’m proud that together we have been able to build the hypercar for real in LEGO Technic form.”

Olivier Jansonnie, Technical Director PEUGEOT Sport, added:

“Our technical cooperation with the LEGO Group started in January 2022, 5 months before the PEUGEOT 9X8 reveal. It took one year to fully develop the project with the technical and design teams, allowing us to directly transpose the technical details of the PEUGEOT 9X8 to the LEGO Technic model. It was very important for both brands to create a model that is as realistic as possible. PEUGEOT, Peugeot Sport and the LEGO teams had numerous meetings about the development of the suspension and hybrid systems that cannot be replicated from photos. We thank the LEGO Group for this project, we are very proud and impressed by the final result that is more than we could have imagined.”

This latest addition to the LEGO Technic series measures over 5 in. (13 cm) high, 9 in. (22 cm) wide, and 19.5 in. (50 cm) long when fully built, and is sure to excite both racing and LEGO fans.

The big reveal of the LEGO version of the race car model took place at the first FIA World European Championship race in Portugal, right before the real-life car hit the tracks in preparation for its highly anticipated appearance at the Le Mans 24 Hour race on June 10th-11th.

Mark your calendars, folks! The LEGO® Technic™ PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar set will be available at LEGO Stores, www.LEGO.com, and through the PEUGEOT dealership network from 1st May with pricing of 199.99€/USD $199.99/£169.99. Don’t miss out on this incredible collaboration!

The unfortunate side of this is that there are at least a couple of Peugeot 9x8s in the LEGO Ideas site, including one from Brick_A_Brac that’s started gaining traction recently. The Brick_A_Brac model is not a Technic build and features parts from the regular LEGO system line, generating a more “normal” looking car than Technic parts do. What happens to those ideas remains to be seen but it seems unlikely LEGO would compete with themselves.
