Dragon Boat Festival (80103) Coming June 1

Last month the LEGO Group announced that Regional Exclusives would be released world-wide beginning with sets released after May 1. There would be an exclusivity period still of up to 6 months and then the set would be released. It wasn’t clear if “regional exclusive” also meant retailer exclusive (the Darth Vader bust at Target only, for example) and still isn’t, but now we have what seems to be the first example of this policy.

Previously announced as an exclusive set for Asia, the Dragon Boat Festival (80103) will be available directly from the LEGO website and LEGO Brand Stores beginning June 1. Pricing is listed as £44.99 in the UK, €49.99 in Europe and one source says $49USD and $49CAD, which doesn’t make sense. The LEGO site in the US and Canada does not have details yet.

This is great news for people who wanted the set, but based on comments anyone who made arrangements to get the set before is unhappy. Many paid a premium on the set price and also high shipping rates. Now that we see the new policy in action, this will likely happen less in the future unless you really need the set early.
