Way back in May the first 9 finalists for the LEGO Ideas submissions for January to May 2016 were announced. These sets had received at least 10,000 supporters and would go on to be judged by the LEGO Group for future set releases. Just to recap, here’s the group photo:

I was cheering for the Fishing Store, Gingerbread House, Train Station and Fossil Museum if I’m being honest so I’m very happy that Robert Bontenbal’s (RobenAnne) set was selected.

old-fishing-store-not-finalLittle is known of course about what changes the LEGO designers will make. The original set was 2160 parts with plenty of those sand green and brown colors to make it feel authentic. The set is about the right size, my opinion, to match with the size of other modular buildings but we don’t know what LEGO will do – it could be enlarged or reduced before we get the final product.

Expect this to reach store shelves sometime in 2017, and of course we’ll post more information as soon as we get it! In the meantime, LEGO Ideas has posted an interview with Robert on their site.

Robenanne has 4  projects in total in the LEGO Ideas community with similar themes. His Boat Repair Shop has also reached 10,000 supporters while his Boat House Diner and The Dive Shop are still in the running for more supporters.
