BrickCan 2017 starts this week, and we’re really excited! This is the 2nd BrickCan event and the organizers have teased us with rumblings of some big improvements on an already great event. The event takes place at Richmond’s River Rock Casino, which is just south of Vancouver, and is open to all ages. Children 12 and under will receive a custom-made LEGO set to take home and build. I’ve seen it and it’s pretty cool.

This year’s theme, based on the image to the right, seems to involve a handsome black bear. Last year they had a giant Duplo Orca built in the lobby to greet us.

I’m signed up for the AFOL side of the event which means I’ll be there most of the time from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. AFOLs participate in games (with prizes), attend seminars, have opportunities to install and set up their MOCs and generally have a good time. The social aspect of the event is one of the biggest draws. Some of the builders in attendance are among the best in the world so we get a chance to pick up some tips too. Last year they had Justin Ramsden, a LEGO designer in Billund, attend the event!

Of course, there’s a bunch of LEGO around to look at and some to play with.

Below is a gallery of photos I took at the inaugural event last year.

BrickCan 2016Tickets for the public are still available through TicketMaster for each of the timeslots. It’s a great event for families or anyone who will be in the Vancouver area April 22 and 23.
