The folks over at COWLUG (Colorado/Wyoming LEGO User Group) have built a LEGO model of the CU-Boulder campus featuring some of the main buildings on campus, and possibly a few little surprises.

The diorama “features Old Main, Macky Auditorium, a suspended MAVEN spacecraft (a nod to CU’s recent role in space exploration) Fiske Planetarium, The Hill, and dozens of other campus features.” There’s also a section showing Folsom Field with a game in progress, and a representation of the 1981 Rolling Stones concert.

The “surprises” I mentioned include “whimsical reflections of life on campus”, both realistic and imaginary. There are slackliners and sharks in Varsity Pond. You can decide which category those go into.

The exhibit was built with between 500,000 and 1 million LEGO bricks (sources vary) and measures 12 by 17 feet. It is a long-term display with free admission Monday through Saturday 10am to 4pm, at the CU Heritage Center museum. Check below for a cool time-lapse video created by the Fiske Planetarium Production department.

The exhibit is also meant to be updated and change to reflect changes to the campus itself, so you may want to visit once in a while.
